Car Review : Rolls-Royce Phantom 2024
Thank You For Reading

The 2024 Rolls-Royce Phantom is an apex predator’s apex predator. It sits at the top of the Rolls-Royce lineup with an eye-watering starting price, a stunning V12 engine, and an interior that is unmatched for its style and choice of materials. It returns unchanged for 2024 after receiving a slight refresh a year ago. The Phantom remains seemingly endlessly customizable, as is expected by those who can afford it.

The V12 is endangered but not extinct

The Rolls-Royce Phantom is powered by a twin-turbo V12 engine that generates 563 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. Finding a V12 under the hood has never been common, exactly, but it’s starting to feel like an endangered species given how few vehicles have one available. If possible, that puts the Phantom in even more rarefied air because of the massive engine at its disposal.

Competitors to consider

If spending half a million dollars on a sedan isn’t your idea of a good time, you might consider the Bentley Flying Spur. You still get a powerful turbocharged V12 and it’s still quite luxurious, just not to the extent of the Phantom. Want a Rolls-Royce but aren’t sold on a sedan? Look at the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, the only SUV offered by the company. It too offers plenty of customization and luxury.

What is the Phantom?

So recognizable is the Rolls-Royce Phantom that you could probably identify it from its silhouette alone. Looking all the world like a modern version of a car you’d find in The Great Gatsby, the Phantom has come to embody the luxury and bespoke craftsmanship of an earlier time. Still fronted by a massive handmade grille, complete with a retractable hood ornament, the Phantom is as imposing as it is luxurious. Propelled by a 6.7-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine, the Phantom has the power to move its occupants effortlessly at any speed.

Rolls-Royce builds every Phantom to order so the odds of finding two alike is about the same as being able to actually afford one. As each Phantom can be customized down to the most minute detail, there really isn’t a list of standard features as we know it for most other vehicles. Rest assured, the Phantom will have the best ride quality, quietest interior and most amazing craftsmanship any of us is likely to ever see. There are rumors of a refresh coming for the 2025 model, so we expect the Phantom to hold steady without any significant changes for 2024.

As far as ultra-luxury sedans go, the Phantom is essentially in a league of its own. Other options for buyers not looking for something a little more under-the-radar could find solace in the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class or the other massive British luxury sedan, the Bentley Flying Spur. While the Bentley offers the nearly limitless customization of the Rolls and the Maybach more impressive technology, neither of them can match the sheer luxury of the Phantom.
